Paul Colman has had a fulfilling career so far. He’s sold thousands of records, released multiple albums, performed all over the world…oh yeah; he even has a Grammy nomination under his belt. So it makes perfect sense he would release a greatest hits album at this point, appropriately titled History.

The album is introduced with the track “If I Were Jesus” which may sound like a strange title. Well, in a way it might seem so, but the tune is surprisingly simple and amazingly sweet. It’s not hard to smile while listening to lyrics like “I’d be the guy at the party/turning water to wine/Yeah, me and my disciples/we’d have a real good time.” “History Maker” arrives with a stronger beat and tempo, but Colman’s voice remains steady and calm throughout. While songs like “I’m Holding On To You” show Colman’s deep reaches of his faith. Colman sings of how he never lets go of the resilient and unchanging love from God and how God makes him stronger through that love. It’s an upbeat song about holding onto faith. While songs like “Turn” and “Run” have a more pop sound. Or the classic “Gloria” that sounds like a beautiful contemporary hymn and leads up to a bold and loud bridge to complete the gorgeous sound.
Songs like “Solution” and “Sweet Sweet Song of Salvation” have a more classic soft rock sound that deviates from the earlier soft-spoken songs in this album. It makes for an intriguing sound, which is different, yet Colman’s influence still defines the music. “All U Need” is extremely simple as far as the music is concerned, yet even so, that simplicity makes for a beautiful ballad. For a poignant wrap up, we have “I Owe It All to You” which focuses on recognizing what all Jesus has done to ensure the success and happiness in one’s life. It’s seems like Colman is ending his album with a song of tribute including everything he is thankful for.
Colman’s album “History” is a look back at his best work. It shows his development as an artist and his growth and change in the sound of his music. One thing that doesn’t change is his faith and trust in God. The message throughout his music over the years expresses that determined hope and faith. It’s like his song “The Only Thing” states; “Only one thing doesn’t change/only one thing stays the same/all in all at the end of the day/Your love remains.”
“I have been blessed throughout my career with many unique experiences and opportunities to perform both as a solo artist and as part of a band,” says Colman. “This project is a great representation of my best work, past and present, and I’m grateful for the gift of music that God gave me.”
