Francesca’s talent and adaptability to life on the stage is easily explained by looking at her family tree. Her parents both made a living by working in theatre and that was in fact how the two met. Battistelli’s album celebrates that same love of the arts she takes from her parents and relishes life in the spotlight. She definitely shows no signs of being shy. With all songs on the album being written or co-written by Basttistelli herself, she also showcases limitless talent. Perhaps paying homage to her muse, the theater, Battistelli titled one track "Behind the Scenes." A song of looking deeper than the surface of oneself:
I take my time To set the stage To make sure everything Is all in place Even though I’ve got the lines rehearsed A picture only paints a thousand words
It’s hard to place her album in just one category. Her songs vary from having a strong pop edge, while others have a blues or jazz feel to them. One thing all the tracks on her album have in common is a message of hope…unflinchingly, determined hope. With her eloquently written lyrics and her unique soulful voice, it’s hard not to get the message. One of the standout tracks of the album "Beautiful, Beautiful" blends her amazing lyrics with her unique vocal talent to make an upbeat inspirational ballad:
Like sunlight burning at midnight Making my life something so Beautiful, beautiful Mercy reaching to save me All that I need You are so Beautiful, beautiful
The CD begins with a smooth tune of empowerment titled "Free to Be Me." Followed up by the track "I’m Letting Go" which is the first single released from the album. This particular song is about following dreams and trusting in faith presented with a catchy pop sound. The title track "My Paper Heart" talks about the ability to be fragile yet finding strength through fragility and trust. Some of the tracks like "Blue Sky" or "Forever Love" can seem repetitive or unoriginal. They are not as strong as other tracks on the album, but hardly dampen the power of the album as a whole. Overall the CD, like its message, is strong and filled with hope. Using Battistelli’s beautiful lyrics and her appealing voice you enjoy this album from the first track to the last. It sets the stage for a young woman with amazing talent.
