Christian metal act Red achieved critical acclaim with their Grammy nominated debut, End of Silence. End of Silence has now been repackaged as to reach new listeners and to keep older fans satisfied by including a Deluxe Edition DVD with many Special Features.

Red is one of the latest bands to rock the Christian world. They are so passionate about their music and it shows in the amount of effort put into their new CD, End of Silence. They are going where few Christian bands have dared to go.

The band’s first single, "Breathe into Me," has powerful music with even more powerful lyrics. It’s as if Michael Barnes (lead vocals) is pleading God to "breathe your life into me/I still need you." This song is one of my favorites on the CD. In "Let Go," Michael sings about wanting the troubles holding him down to let go of him. He sings, "You can't have me, let go!" He is done with all that is keeping him from serving God.

"Already Over" is a very powerful song that starts off with piano and then explodes into rock. Red wants the message "I give it all to you. Letting go of me" to get out to the listener, so they may put God into control. "Lost," included as an acoustic version on the Deluxe Edition, is my favorite song. It features amazing lyrics such as: "I am reaching. Helpless I descend. You lead me deeper through this maze. I am not afraid. I am lost in you." It’s great message on how we can rely on God to lead us.

"Pieces" is one of their slower songs. Michael sings about how a man has been shattered into pieces. He sings about how he relied on himself and not God. But as God calls his name the man answers and God makes him whole again. "Break Me Down" is a great example of what I and many of us need to do: "Break me down replace this fear inside. Take this nothingness from me. I want to fight. I want to shine. I want to rise." "Wasting Time" features cool guitars and drums. The group sings of how they are pushing away the Devil (or some bad influence), by turning their back on Satan, and seeing through his lies.

"Gave It All Away" also has sweet guitar. Michael sings of how someone had gone astray by turning their back on the truth and "Gave It All Away." "Hide" has Michael singing about how he is ignoring what he can't erase. He says "I will run and hide 'til memories fade away." He is trying to escape from the memories that are haunting him about his past mistakes. The one negative thing about this song is that it is not expressed that they are trusting on God.

There are many bonus features on the DVD that comes with the Deluxe Edition, including live concert footage. Live songs include: "Wasting Time,” “Hide,” “Let Go,” “Already Over,” “Pieces,” “Break Me Down,” and “Breathe Into Me." I enjoyed watching this extra footage because Red knows how to keep the crowd excited, but I found that Michael did not sing as well as on the CD. However, I can enjoy the music better watching them play it.

The disc also has a Behind the Scenes Documentary. I had fun watching it because they talked with all of the band members and got their opinions about the CD. They showed how the band created the CD and all of the work it took for them to make it.

My favorite part of the DVD was the "Breathe into Me" music video. It has cool lighting, gives more meaning to the song and tells a story about a girl who is very sick. It takes place in two buildings, the hospital and an old photo lab with film all around. It is one of the coolest music videos I have seen.

After that is a Photo Montage. It has a lot of pictures of what the band does on the road. One of my favorite pictures shows the group in a circle praying before the concert.
On the last extra on the DVD, they have a long video from the road. For the first three minutes they show footage of when they got back from their concert and their hotel had a small fire. The whole video is just the group being funny and showing what they do when they have a day off. But it is pretty interesting.

If you already have the CD, but not the Deluxe Edition I would recommend you buy the Deluxe CD if what I just wrote sounded interesting. They did a good job on the extras and I enjoyed the whole DVD.
