"I told the band, 'Everything we do, I want it to be more,'" says Hsu. "If we are going to be rock, let's be more rock. If we are going to be punk, let's be more punk. If we are going to touch metal, let's really do metal. I just wanted to fire all the barrels."
And that's exactly what they did. In the song "Hold" fans will hear billowing pianos and violins as they sing out for strength and in "Crawl (Carry Me Through)" things slow down but keep the same message of hope and finding strength. "My heart, my soul aches, I don't know what to do, I bend but I don't break, somehow I'll get through, Cause I have you."
In the songs "So Beautiful," "Cross the Line," "Alive" and "Rock What You Got" Superchick rocks out as listeners get the familiar but popular "girl power" message. "Back in the 80's women were more about empowerment and being strong, and they didn't have to fit into the mold of just being sex symbols," says Tricia. "Vocally we went in that direction: rawer and pushing out the range, yet still carrying what we are."
Rock What You Got is strong in both lyrical and musical content and does its job of reminding you to live just a little MORE and get closer to that line. Pushing yourself and going on even when it feels pointless. "If I can overcome step one, I can face the 99."
Fans can get a sneak peek of the album at www.inpop.com/superchicklovesyou.com where the band is offering a free download of the song "Alive." Be sure to pick up a copy of the full album on June 24 and catch Superchick out on the road as they start their "Rock What You Got" fall tour in September with guests Stellar Kart, Article One and Starlit Platoon. |
