Apol-acoustiX Apologetix

"Our fans have been clamoring for some of our earlier material, but we weren't keen on releasing any of those old performances. We couldn't rewrite history, but we realized that we could rewrite, re-perform, and re-record some of those old parodies (and some newer ones), but with a decade and a half's worth of experience. So that's what we did on Apol-acoustiX." -J. Jackson

With the success of New And Used Hits behind them ApologetiX lead vocalist J. Jackson and guitarist Karl Messner decided to come together and give the fans a special acoustic project, similar to what Kiss did in the 80's. (And so many other bands have been known to do over their career.) The band unplugged for the fans and their 11th studio album, Apol-acoustiX, came to be.

The album kicks off with "Talk about the Lord" (parody of We're Gonna Rock Around The Clock by Bill Haley and His Comets) This song is interesting because it's different from the original version considering there is no bass guitar or drums on it. The lyrics lead us into a song about ApologetiX and what they're about. It's simple but it reinforces what they believe and what we as Christians should believe. The song is based on Acts 4:20, which encourages us to speak freely about what God has done in our lives as well as what God has done in the lives of others.

One of the tracks that really stands out on the album is "Scripture" (parody of Picture by Kid Rock and Sheryl Crow) It features J. and Karl singing from the point of view of a struggling, sinning Christian who doesn't know exactly what they believe. God (played by Karl) is there to encourage and lead the way because there is still hope. As the Christian opens the "scripture" things jump out at him, which reinforces everything God had stated, and the character rededicates his life to Christ.

Another favorite of mine is "Trinity." (parody of Thank You by Led Zeppelin) Trinity talks about how at times as Christians, we can't comprehend and often get confused with what the Bible is telling us but it's at those times that we can't give up, we can only believe in the Word.

The final song on Apol-acoustiX is "Yes Today" (parody of Yesterday by the Beatles). "Yes Today" is a song that encourages non-believers to accept Christ and Christians to re-dedicate their lives to Him. If you believe in God you should start a relationship with Christ by simply saying "Yes Today"

Apol-acoustiX is an amazing album, which continues the message and mission of ApologetiX. This is a favorite of mine because it's totally different from anything the band has done before. Although it lacks in bass and drums Apol-acoustiX makes up for it in lyrics that are fun but also have a worshipful feel to them. The entire album is about two guys with two guitars, sharing the Word of God, it's just that simple which makes the album that much more enjoyable.
