I finally had a chance to purchase Until My Heart Caves In and at first, I was slightly disappointed. It wasn't until I found out that this is Audio Adrenaline's last year as a band that I came to truly appreciate this CD. Listening to it with a different perspective makes it obvious why it was nominated for Rock Gospel Album of the Year for the 48th GRAMMY Awards.
It starts off in true AudioA style - upbeat and just rockin' music. It really makes you want to get up and start clapping away to the beat. "Clap Your Hands" is a great way to start their concerts and an equally strong way to begin their CD. The next couple songs stay consistent with the upbeat style until about track four, when things start slowing down.
"Melody (Lost Inside the Wonder)" is my favorite song, by far, on this album. The sound is unique to the band and the lyrics remind us all that life before Christ is unseen in His eyes.
The rest of the songs seem a bit repetitive, especially since the music is slowed a bit, but with "Your Love Keeps Lifting Me Higher," you'll want to continue tapping your fingers and toes.
"Losing Control" appeared to be a weak way to end the CD, but considering the circumstances, it turns out to be an emotional conclusion. Mark's voice tells all in the heart tugging last lines, "This is what it feels like to face the truth. This is what it feels like to know it's through. This is what it feels like to say goodbye. This is what it feels like for a man to cry."
It sure isn't Worldwide, but I would suggest every Audio Adrenaline fan to pick this one up. I don't think it's the kind of music for first time listeners of Audio Adrenaline to grow a custom to due to the slower beat, but long time fans will definitely want this in their collection.
