"Our goal has always been to make each album better than the one before it, yet each one has its shining moments, and we wanted this collection to represent the entire span of the band's career. We also wanted to show the scope of styles we've spoofed, including rock, pop, alternative, metal, rap, new wave, progressive, oldies, Latin, adult contemporary, country, disco, etc. They're all here on this CD." -ApologetiX

ApologetiX, the Christian parody band, set out to make New And Used Hits the best they could possibly offer. Not only did they include new material on New And Used Hits, disc one, but they also offered up live recordings of old favorites, which brings me to New And Used Hits, disc two.

New And Used Hits, disc two, starts off with "Bethlehemian Rhapsody" (the parody of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody) Next on the track list is the ever-popular "Real Sin Savior" (parody of Real Slim Shady from Eminem), which features J Jackson rapping about our walk with Christ. In this song, the band also confronts the problems with the evolution theory without God.

The album also features the ApologetiX hard rock classic "Enter Samson" (parody of Enter Sandman by Metallica). "Enter Samson" features, as you may have guessed, the life of Samson. The song deals with Samson's relationship with Delilah. While only featuring one guitarist in the ApologetiX version of this song, many fans will agree that the band gives Metallica a run for their money.

As in disc one, disc two also features live recordings such as "Walk His Way" (Parody of Walk this Way from Aerosmith). "Walk His Way" hits on the topic of Christians sometimes having a hard time leaving earthly things behind in order to follow Christ. This live version is a nice touch to the album as it shows how much the band has improved on the song since its debut on the album, Jesus Christ Morning Star.

My favorite song of the album would probably be "Kick In The Wall." Although the lyrics might not be as deep as other ApologetiX songs, its true lyrics simply remind us that "Victory's in God's control. The dark side cannot win the battle." Those lyrics make me believe that if you let God take control of your life, sin can be erased and forgiven, allowing you to live a better life in Christ.

New And Used Hits proves that ApologetiX knows how to cater to their fans. They also prove successful in conveying God's message in a very unique way. Through the 40 songs on this album, listeners get a look into the hearts of each band member as they share what God has taught them. They also share this message during their live show. In doing this, it's plain to see that they are a group of humble men who really appreciate what God has done for them and their fans. This could be part of the reason why New And Used Hits was voted "Best Album Of '05" in Christianity Today's reader's choice awards.
