On their way to the Agape Festival in Illinois, House Of Heroes made a stop in Danville, Indiana for a performance at Northview Christian Church. Joining them were Slingshot57 and The Tide. In this exclusive review, see what ccmBuzz member, Ashley Adcox had to say about the show!
By Ashley Adcox When you only have about one hundred people show up for a show, you would expect the bands to tone it down a little and maybe not put forth as much effort. Scratch that idea for the members of House Of Heroes, Slingshot57, and The Tide who all did their part to shake the walls of Northview Christian Church in Danville, Indiana on Friday night.
Michigan-based band The Tide started things off at 8pm to a crowd of roughly seventy-five people, eager to get the show moving on to the headlining band. Not long into the opening song, lead singer, Steve performed on keys without the band behind him. The crowd soon realized that The Tide was exceeding all expectations and the mood of the crowd quickly changed. The sound system didn?t seem to be tweaked just right and the vocals seemed to be so loud that it ruined any hope of grasping what was being said. Despite the problems, The Tide found a way to win over the not so enthusiastic crowd and prepare us all for the amazing night ahead.
After a short change in set, Slingshot57 from Champaign, Illinois came on as the room began to get more crowded. I was not familiar with the band, but they certainly made sure everyone in the building walked away knowing their name. Slingshot57?s passion is, in all honesty, unmatched out of all the shows I?ve seen. These guys know how to rock hard, but without missing a beat, toned it down and made sure everyone knew what the night was about, and knew why they were there.
At the end of the set, lead singer, Ben Woods gave a talk as the band played a loop. The words he spoke seemed unrehearsed, spontaneous, and deeply heartfelt, making for something that was completely unlike anything I?ve seen before. The sound problems remained, but the sense of urgency in his voice made the message loud and clear. The pure raw passion flowing out of him was striking. The room became heavy, and it appeared as though God?s hand was on every heart in that room, as everyone stood there, seemingly in shock at how moving this was turning out to be. CCM world, watch out- this band is on the rise, and it doesn?t appear as though they will stop for anyone before getting their message out to all who will listen.
Much to the audiences delight, headliners House Of Heroes took to the stage to wrap up the night. As was the recurring theme throughout the night, energy and passion was not in short supply. Everyone brought their "A-game" and put it to good use. Playing a nice mix of fan favorites - covers from Queen and Kelly Clarkson - as well as throwing in the new songs off their album Say No More, which drops May 2, they definitely hit the spot with the crowd.
During the nine-song set, band members and fans alike seemed to be enjoying themselves. The crowd was having a blast, and the band was feeding off that. Much to my delight, everyone in the crowd was respectful, and followed the "No Moshing" rule. The energy in the room was in full swing by the time House Of Heroes got to their fan-favorite song "Buckets." The crowd went crazy while still keeping things safe. That energy remained during the band?s final few songs. The closing included "Mercedes Baby" and a final chorus of Queens "Fat Bottomed Girls." The band members were incredibly generous with their time after the show, as they stayed signing autographs until everyone had left. One thing was very evident by the end of the night - all of these guys wanted to touch the world with Christ?s love and try to make a difference in someone?s life. After being at the venue for roughly six hours, I walked out of the doors having been blown away by The Tide, incredibly blessed by Slingshot57, and filled with happiness in knowing that House Of Heroes, one of my favorite bands, can indeed deliver an amazing live show.
