Charlie Hall, famous worship leader of the Passion conferences for college students, stopped by Florida Southern College for a short, but intimate concert on October 12th.

Hosted by the Chaplain’s Office, the concert was part of FSC’s Alcohol Awareness Week. Beginning with a ten minute introduction and a "time for questions," Hall called out each of his band members, specifically keyboardist Brian Bergman to stand next to him. The crowd got a big kick out of the tallest member at 6’8" standing next to Hall, the smallest member of the band. Drummer Dustin Ragland was introduced as the player who plays "mini instruments. M-i-n-i." And bassist Quint Anderson, fresh out of college, denied the request of Hall to do his famous "Microwave Dance," "which he can be found doing on YouTube.com," Hall added.

Promoting their newest album, Charlie Hall and band performed songs from Flying Into Daybreak, starting off with "Bravery." Hall admitted that there is a line in the song that he has a hard time living out. "I rise above the flattery and frowns," is good advice, he said, but it’s hard to live a life not worrying about what other people think of you. But as the song says, we are God’s and He makes us brave every time we see Him smile.

Another encouraging song perfect for the college audience was "Micah 6:8." A seemingly fit prayer for those struggling to live a Godly life, Hall sang the song straight from Scripture, "Help us love mercy, help us do justly, help us walk humbly with you God."

"Center," a song co-written with co-Passion leader Matt Redman, provides a smooth transition into the hymn "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus." This new song also provided advice for the audience, encouraging us to put Christ at the center of our lives, "be the place we fix our eyes."

By far the favorite of the night was closer "Marvelous Light." Recognized by the whole audience as a song performed in chapel service, everyone got on their feet and clapped along with Hall and his band mates. Some even lifted their hands and spun around. Repeating the chorus several times to the audience’s delight, Charlie Hall closed with announcing that the whole band would be in the cafeteria following the concert for "Get Toasted!", a late night event in which professors serve students a midnight snack of French toast. The night ended with the band eating and conversing with students, with an occasional picture or two in the mix.
