| Late into a warm summer night, I lie on my back and gaze up at the sky; I’ve read a meteor shower is coming and I am determined to catch it. The grass prickles beneath me, cars whoosh and honk in the distance, neighbors’ voices float from open windows, but I don’t pay them much attention. I am anticipating something wondrous and my senses are alert and sharpened to only that. I am not only watching, I am expecting. The sky suddenly illuminates with arrows of flaming light exploding in all directions, shooting across the expanse and leaving a wake of unmistakable traces of light, which gradually fade and return into the darkness. Just like that, and the sky resumes its inky blackness. But I am left wide-eyed, seared with the dazzling evidence of a world beyond the realm of my understanding and control. |

Every time I turn on the radio and hear that song by Daniel Powter called "Bad Day," I cringe. I’m just not a big fan of the song. I always thought the words were a bit cheesy (just my opinion of course). When I woke up on the morning of April 16th, I just figured it would be an ordinary day. By the time I went to bed that night, I found myself singing, "I had a bad day…." It was just a horrible 24 hours. |

 | Sitting in my office one morning, with my heart weakened, and my spirit nearly broken, I began thinking about where God had been the last decade of my life. I wondered why so many of God’s promised blessings seemed to evade me and much of this world’s trouble seemed to have no problem landing on my doorstep and that of my family. Nothing seemed to go right for me no matter how hard I worked, no matter how hard I prayed, no matter what I did. |
